The two committees which are chaired by Nyandarua Senator John Muhia Methu and his Kiambu counterpart Karungu Thang’wa respectively received a delegation from the County Assembly of Nyandarua who want them to consider the petition drawn by the Speaker of their Assembly where they have petitioned the Senate on the Ihithe-Aberdare  Forest – Kahuruko- Ndunyu Njeru Road construction and tarmacking project.

After they passed the motion and presented the petition, Speaker of the Senate Amozon Kingi directed that the matter be considered by the two Joint committees.

The assembly is petitioning the Senate on the following issues; to; Consult with National Environment Management Authority, Kenya National Highway Authority, Kenya Forest Service and the Kenya Wildlife Service with an aim of considering the retendering and construction and tarmacking of Ihithe-Aberdare Forest – Kahuruko-Ndunyu Njeru Road and initiate approvals from Kenya Forest Service, National Environment Management Authority and  Kenya Wildlife Service for the benefit of the people of the region, since it will reduce travel time and potentially lower cost of farm produce, and improve tourism in the region among the counties of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Nakuru and Murang’a among others.

Also in the petition is to request Nyandarua Governor, Moses Kiarie Badilisha to establish a committee represented by the Nyandarua leadership to spearhead multilateral negotiation among Nyeri County Government leadership, The National Treasury and the Ministry of Transport and Energy, Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, National Environment Management Authority and Kenya National Highway Authority.

Yesterday,  the committee resolved to summon Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development together with Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Roads, Transport and Public Works to elaborate on the issue raised by Nyandarua people’s representatives.

Present at the meeting were the Nyandarua Senator, his Nyeri counterpart Wahome Wamatinga and Samburu’s Dr. Steve Ltumpezi Lelegwe.

Others were, Senators Peris Pesi Tobiko, Miriam Sheikh Omar and Beatrice Akinyi Ogala

The rehabilitation of the said road was stopped after it emerged that some stakeholders were not consulted nor did they give approval of its construction as required by law.
