Five dozens of bright and needy students set to join Form one next week yesterday received bursary from the Nyeri County government.
The delighted students received their sponsorship letters from area governor Mutahi Kahiga during the ceremony at his offices in Nyeri town.
The 60 students, two per each of the county’s 30 electoral wards are this year’s beneficiaries of the Governor Full Scholarship programme.
Under the initiative, the government has been sponsoring the bright pupils from vulnerable families who scored above 350 marks.
The students will have their fees fully paid by the County Government for the next four years. Their uniforms were also catered for and each given a pair of black shoes which are a product of the government.
This is the fifth cohort to benefit through the programme which Governor Kahiga initiated in 2018, bringing the total to 300 beneficiaries.
“My government remains committed to supporting the education of our children, the improvement of academic performance in our county and ultimately, the lives of our youth,” noted the governor.
The county government will soon be disbursing the Sh50 Million Elimu Fund bursaries to assist some of the county’s students from vulnerable homes in secondary schools, colleges, polytechnics and special schools.
In the pursuance of improving Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), the County Government has employed over 800 ECDE teachers, built and renovated many ECDE centres across the county with an aim of ensuring young novices have favourable learning environs.
Further, the County Government has built and renovated the Vocational Training Centers as well as equipped them to ensure they are centres of excellence.
The governor was accompanied by among others, his deputy David Kinaniri Warui, Education CEC Margaret Macharia, Director James Kiretai, County Secretary Ben Gachihio, Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu and Ministry of Education officers as well as a group of MCAs.
