Stakeholders Consultative Meeting On Wajir County’s Lasting Solution To Water And Sanitation Services

The Principal Secretary State Department for Water and Sanitation Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh yesterday chaired a consultative meeting on Wajir county water and sanitation services.
The Wajir leadership was led by the area governor Ahmed Abdullahi.
The county is a water scarce region with current studies revealing that only two areas of Arbajahan and Ademasajida can be drilled to provide water to Wajir town.
While addressing the leaders, PS Ronoh urged them to urgently convene a meeting to further deliberate on a workable and long term solution to provide water and sanitation services to the residents.
The PS revealed that plans are under way to commence the award for construction of the Bute dam project.
All the leaders present advocated for long lasting situations to provide water and sanitation services in their county with the PS assuring the leaders that a team headed by Water Secretary Eng Sao Alima will meet with Water Resources Authority (WRA) and Northern Water Works Development Agency (NWWDA) to further come up with strategies for water and sanitation services in the area.
As way forward, the Wajir leadership agreed to meet urgently, within two weeks under the governor leadership and report their views and findings to the Ministry for more discussion and implementation.
The PS reiterated that there is no more space for feasibility study as much more research has been undertaken before and called on The Consultant SMEC and Earth Water Limited to share their findings with the County Government of Wajir so as to create more synergy and ownership of the program.
Dr Ronoh who convened the meeting at the ministry headquarters in Nairobi was flanked by Water Secretary Eng Alima, Secretary Administration Stephen Kihara, Eng Amwata and CEO NWWDA Andrew Rage. From Wajir, the governor was accompanied by Aden Daud MP Wajir East, Hussein A. Barre (Tarbaj), Yussuf Mohamed (Wajir) West, Mohamed Adow (Wajir South), Fatuma Abdi (Woman Representative), Ibrahim A. Saney (Wajir North) as well as a number of Members of County Assembly.
