Storytelling - Bar Corner
By: Muthoni Kahuthia
There is these Egyptian saying that says, “The mouth of a perfectly happy man is filled with beer.” I can’t agree more.
This particular Friday evening was gloomy, somber, really complimented my mood. I had spent my day moving up and down running office errands and by evening I was already feeling emaciated. As if someone had sucked out all the life in my soul. So I decided to nourish it and get my life back, and how better to do that than having a beer. Right?
I gave my order and took a sit by myself at the furthest corner of the bar. Finally I was having some me time, just me and my beer. As I wait for my order I notice two guys sitting by themselves, one sipping on a beer and the other a whiskey, I guess. Both seem lost in thought (life sucks, obviously). As my order arrives, I notice a certain beauty take a sit by the counter. Again, I know that beauty is in the eye of the beer holder, (I have my own interpretation of this) so I take my beer and walk to the counter to say hi . We clique right away. She laughs at my dry jokes. I even find her laugh adorable. (At this point I know am simping). Anyway good things don’t last for long neither does good moments. This well-built man approaches (he works out) says hi to the lady and totally ignores me.
Her; “Hey beb you’re late, ooh and this is Joe he was just leaving.” I look behind me for another Joe, and there isn’t. She’s talking about me. I am Joe and I was about to leave. (Sigh)
Long story short, I left. I never went home, no. I switched bars.
This time I sit at the counter with my head down my only focus been the beer in my hand.
