A few weeks after Nakuru was made the fourth City in the country, rehabilitation of infrastructure to conform to its new status have began in earnest.
To start with, roads within the city’s Central Business District (CBD) have kicked off.
In the drawing board is nine link roads whose rehabilitation programme was commissioned by area governor Lee Kinyanjui at the weekend.
The roads include Bargain road, the road behind Gilanis to KPLC, Kipchoge Keino road (Ole Ken to Law Courts), Mashindano road (Langalanga hospital through Kariba to Afraha Stadium) and lower Tom Mboya road (connecting Cathey to Shadrack Kimalel road).
Others are Chui road (Afraha Stadium to Kanu Street), Matundu road (Dog Section to Kinuthia Mbugua road), Kakamega road (46 stage to Racecourse shopping centre) and part of Crater climb (Graceland to KFS Menengai forest gate).
The works will include street lighting and pedestrian walkways.
While commissioning the rehabilitation, the governor observed, “Nakuru has for a long time been a one street town and tarmacking of these roads will expand business opportunities beyond Kenyatta Avenue”.
Kinyanjui further revealed that plans to install CCTV cameras to reinforce security within City were also under way.
The governor who is seeking the second term in office under Jubilee party noted that once the roads are rehabilitated and CCTV cameras installed, the city will be the best place to invest in business which he said would boast its resident’s income and raise their standards of living.
