THE 5th AFRICAN ANNUAL GLOBAL HONOREE AUTHORS’ AWARDS 2022
What are the objectives, vision and mission of your annual event?
It is really to motivate African people to write more. We need to write our own narrative for healing, unity, representation, cultural heritage, legacy, history and inclusion.
What is your theme for this year?
Unlock the TRUTH in Africa. PEN Warriors in Africa.
Why did you choose that theme?
The theme’s relevance for PEN Warriors in Africa this year is the war that is taking place but for me war has not solved any problems around the world, war causes pain, trauma, loss and scars. I believe that the PEN is mightier than the SWORD. It is time for us to PEN our stories, our challenges, our solutions and in our innovative ideas.
UNLOCK the TRUTH in Africa, history has proven that we have been fed lies all along about Africans and Africa, it is still continuing until today. Only the TRUTH can set the WORLD free. TRUTH can free us LIES can’t.
Who is supporting you with these events?
My support comes from ordinary Authors, citizens, family and friends around the globe. Word has spread to all corners on the continent and we have honored AfriCAN Authors in 25 countries on the continent so far.
What impact do you see this event is having in the future?
The AfriCAN Authors’ Awards is about liberating Africans’ minds. We have been programmed and we need to unlearn, deprogrammed and we need to start solving Africa’s problems the African way!
How satisfied are you with the platform you give to author’s around the globe?
I am privileged and fortunate to promote self publishing Authors because I was a struggling self publishing Author myself. The awareness of the power and limited access to African Literature will improve over time around the globe. It is a process and it is unfolding like a movement of the new black consciousness.
Tell us the importance of receiving an award especially honoree awards?
The AfriCAN Authors’ Awards is unique and special in the way that it is “spiritual” and honoring ordinary Authors while they are alive is part of true Ubuntiusm. It is not a competition and has no voting system, it is not a feel good show it is honoring Authors for being brave enough to pen their stories. Creative Artists do not get a lot of support from government institutions and here we are acknowledging them for their talent.
What is the impact of this event, flashing back from previous event’s?
From honoring the youngest child author Mikayla Schmidt, to honoring Literature legends like Dr Gcina Mhlophe, Dr Don Mattera and Dr Tu Nokwe was an honor and are really presenting the NEW history for the next generation.
You are the full time reader who reads many books of your nominees just before the event, could you please share the experience with us?
I journey with all Authors through their written word and it gives me a new perspective on why the world is what it is. I am very empathic, compassionate and passionate about reading and learning from anyone. There is no barrier of color, race and religion when it comes to pain, loss and happiness. It is all part of every human’s life.
The upcoming event what will be the expectations to the continent?
The expectation for 2022 is really for Africans to wake up and realize that we have to liberate our minds to fix our leadership challenges on the continent.
What will be new that was not there in the previous one?
This year we will focus more on Conscious Authorship, we need to replenish the Earth because we use paper which comes from trees. So the awareness of the Conscious Authorship Initiative which supports the Spek boom plant is taking serous momentum this year.
Where will the awards be hosted?
The 5th AfriCAN Annual Global Honoree Authors’ Awards 2022 will be held at the Genesis Conference in Fairland’s, Johannesburg.
When will be hosted?
It will be hosted on the 31st July 2022.
What will be the start time?
13h30 for 14h00 SA Time.

How many author around the globe will be honored?
This year it will be 150 Authors we could not take on more Authors because of financial strains and my recovery from post COVID19.
How many indigenous author’s will be honored ?
Around 20 Authors.
Which language or author of indigenous language will be honored for the first time in your history of your awards?
A youth Author for Xitsonga.
What you do with so many books after the events?
I am keeping it to build our own AfriCAN Virtual Library one day!
Which organization do you work with to make your events a success every year?
I work with Publication houses and with the Department of Arts, Sports and Culture.
In closing what will be your advice regarding writing, reading, publishing, preserving nature and empowering the self published authors to the world?
Stop writing according to the “worldly standards”, be YOU and write from the heart.
Those who have interest to be nominated in future what they can do?
We are opening our submission in October this year, they need to send their signed book with their contact details in it to us via courier or Pep Stores with a deposit receipt of R200 towards our Conscious Authorship Initiative which supports the Spek boom Tree.
