The latest reports indicate that former Makueni Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana has joined Daystar as a law professor.

The decision by the University Council was well informed as it was based on merit and experience.

Professor Kibwana, a graduate of Havard University, is a renowned law lecturer.

I came to know the good Professor when he was teaching law at the University of Nairobi (UON) also served as a key member of Center For Law and Research International (Clarion).

In mid 90s, Kibwana was also a house hold name during the clamor for a new constitutional dispensation. He was the leader of the National Convention Executive Council/National Convention Assembly agitating for this reforms.

His grasp of the matters of law and his talent of associating with all classes of the people was indeed palpable.

When he was outside the lecture room, he knew how to engage the ordinary people and deliver his message in a manner that would leave every person contented.

When he declared his interest to vie for Makueni gubernatorial seat, he used the same language to rally the masses behind his candidature and as a result won these elections with ease.

During his tenure, Kibwana left no doubt he was ready to walk the talk in terms of championing the ideals of good governance, democracy and human rights. Public participation became a core pillar of his administration.

The people of Makueni would freely participate in public debates and on priority basis agree on the projects they wanted implemented.

On matters of corruption, he stood firm in protecting public coffers .

He was ready to pay the ultimate price. Even when an attempt to snuff out his life was made he never caved in.

At one point, he wrote a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to dissolve the County of Makueni and call for fresh election.

The pressure from members of county assembly (MCAs) is too much. They want me to allow them to raid the coffers of this county. This can only happen under my dead body. I’m ready to go home.
