The Government Should Not Intend To Increase University Fees

By Abraham Ong’uti

After the president Ruto returned the education reform taskforce to discuss bring recommendations about raising university fees from 16,000 to 52,000 are not a good thought. Since the stakeholders who will be involved will be had for them to deny the proposals, because as it is said the intention is to solve the debt problems inside universities. Considering how university students struggle to pay the current fee is a predicament and it was not a better idea to feel.

Many comrades are in every semester writing deferment letters because of difficulties and the backgrounds they come from. Even the helb that is provided is not sufficient to cater for several needs they are entitled to like rent and food. The government actually rallied along giving Kenyans especially the hustlers a thriving environment than before but then the question is to be, the education will be for who?.

The government must look for better solutions liking auditing the government sponsored universities so that they can account for the funds and money they get. Adding university fees will create a segregated educational environment for students who worked hard from poor backgrounds to come these higher learning institutions. Let everybody be credible since even the helb loans not all the students who receive to sustain them.

Despite increasing fees let the government use the opportunity and ensure accountability is credited in universities. I urge that this issue be credibly be considered so that not to discourage the education of those who are not able to raise the fees in the circling issue of university debts for the benefit of the unaccountable.
