D. Brinda, The Mt Kenya Times Indian poetry coordinator, won the Creativity Award at the Puthiya Thalaimurai and Kanavasiriyar Teacher Awards ceremony held on 29 August at Vaishnav College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Brinda, who teaches at Melpattampakkam Government High School in Cuddalore District, was selected from among ten outstanding educators drawn from across Tamil Nadu, each honoured under a distinct category at the annual Teachers’ Day celebrations.
The selection process was rigorous β involving public verification visits, institutional checks and a jury interview β ensuring that only educators with a proven record of impact were recognised.
A teacher since 1994, Brinda has taught in Himachal Pradesh and the Republic of Maldives and has represented India at the Kumamoto Tsunami Awareness Summit in Japan. She has uploaded more than 4,000 educational videos on YouTube, edits a bimonthly creative writers’ e-magazine and regularly hosts open-mic sessions to nurture student talent.
At the ceremony, Brinda proudly held a copy of The Mt Kenya Times and expressed gratitude to the newspaper for publishing her creative writers’ articles, describing it as a source of pride for her students and contributors.
