Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on the lookout for county surgeons employed by the government not performing to task.

Speaking during the flagging off of Trans Nzoia county community health promoters kit at Mt. Elgon Hospital in Hospital Ward, Saboti constituency, the governor expressed his destate on the performance of the medical surgeons.

According to the governor, some surgeons are joy-riding on the back of others working, while receiving salary with no accountability, despite common mwananchi not receiving the service.

“I’m very disappointed at the performance report of our medical officers majorly our county senior surgeons. It is unfortunate that some surgeons in the year 2022-2023 have not performed a single surgery despite receiving huge salaries. While others are doing more than 140 surgeries, others have done one in close to two years. I’m going to fire these people because they are literally on strike. This is mwananchi’s tax going to waste.” Governor Natembeya angrily lamented.

Launching the program in September to improve health services in the country, 100,000 community promoters were employed across the country, with each set to work on 100 households and further equipped with modern equipment/kits to enhance their work.

The governor also said both governments are working on paying the community health promoters a monthly stipend of Kshs. 50,000 inclusive of NHIF to include their families. Earlier, commonly referred to Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) were working on voluntary basis, and only received stipends Incase of activities by the health providers.

“We have already mapped all the nine (9) hubs and 179 spokes with 79 manned by the county government and linked to 224 Community health units (CHUs).” He further affirmed.

“I commend the Ministry of Health for training Master Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) and deploying them across the country to do sensitization on primary healthcare (PHC) and scale up Primary Care Networks (PCNs) establishment in the counties. We can achieve UHC if we work together. I call on everyone to come on board and support the implementation of PHC and PCNs in Trans Nzoia County.” He further added.
