Ceaser King'ori Wagicheru

A travel agency yesterday denied claims that it had defrauded Kenyans and foreigners more than KSh700 million.
In a statement, Vintmark Travel Agency refuted claims that one of its directors, Ceaser King’ori Wagicheru had facilitated the fraud.
“We takes great exception to the false, malicious and defamatory story run by Nation Media Group on NTV and the Daily Nation titled ‘How Sh720m jobs fraud suspect exploited Ruto’s Germany tour’. The story is not only false, but the company and our shareholder, Mr Ceaser King’ori, were not accorded the right of reply as per the principles of journalism and rules of natural justice,” the statement read in part
It continued, “We wish to reiterate that Vintmark Travel Agency Ltd is properly registered company working from a well-known establishment where more than 50 Kenyans are employed, and that it conducts its business in an above-board manner. We run our affairs professionally, and any complaints, which are part of the nature of business in any sector, are resolved transparently and conclusively.”
The statement further averred that contrary to the allegations in the story which claimed that KSh720 million is involved, all the complaints gathered together do not amount to Sh3 million.
“Most of these are clients whose visas were denied not because of any fault on the side of Vintmark Travel Agency Ltd. Still, Vintmark Travel Agency Ltd, as is the policy and agreement with our clients, offers several remedial measures which include four times reapplication for a client whose visa has been denied, the option of choosing another country and the client substituting themselves with another person, say a relative,” it further read.
It continued, “As a law-abiding company in good standing in the industry we subject ourselves to our regulator, the National Employment Authority (NEA). Eleven of the 23 cases against us are before the authority and we are on course to dispensing with them. These cases, even if they were all ruled in favour of the complainants, will not amount to even one per cent of the wild figure of Sh720 million mentioned in the story.”
The management of the travel noted that owing to the defamatory stories, they would be moving to court to seek damages and aggravated damages from Nation Media Group and the reporter concerned.
“We are also seeking conservatory orders barring Nation Media Group from publishing more stories on the matter. We shall further seek to compel the company to pull down the defamatory story from NTV and Daily Nation’s websites, and issue an apology of equal prominence as the damaging publications. The company is also taking the matter before the Media Complaints Commission of the Media Council of Kenya which by law should enforce the principles of good journalism,”.
