The Tura-Narasha water supply project has become a beacon of hope for pastoral communities in Isiolo and Laikipia, promoting peace and harmony where water scarcity once sparked conflict and loss of life.
At the launch of the Sh20 million project, residents shared how access to water has transformed their lives, allowing them to focus on livelihoods like bead-making without the fear of violence.
Mary Mosian’, a Laikipia resident, highlighted the collaboration between women from both counties to resolve conflicts through peace committees.
Supported by the Swedish government and Northern Rangeland Trust, this initiative has effectively addressed long-standing tensions in the region.
NRT Chief Executive Officer Tom Lalampaa emphasized that the project acts as a unifying factor, bringing communities together through shared resources.
With women playing a crucial role in peacebuilding, the project not only uplifts lives but also fosters dialogue and collaboration.
Sweden’s Embassy Head of Development Cooperation, Ms. Annika Otterstedt, said that the Swedish government was keen on supporting women in the local communities to better their lives through water and peacebuilding initiatives.
