We Have Put In Place Effective Measures To Protect Children From Cyberbullying And Homosexuality – Akili Network Ltd

The Senate Committee on Information, Communication and Technology has heard that Akili Kids has put in place safeguards to mitigate the propagation of homosexuality and cyberbullying among children.
Akili Kids is the first and only Kenyan dedicated free-to-air children’s television network with imaginative and educative local content whose sole mandate is to entertain children and their families.
While responding to the Honourable Senators’ concerns at Parliament Buildings yesterday, Akili Network Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jeff Sckon, allayed any fears of negative influence on children by the television station, stating that they have put in place policies that ensure they air quality and general exhibition rated content.
He added that his television network works closely with the Communication Authority (CA) and Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) and has put in place a Protective Advertisement Policy which discourages the airing of advertisements that may harm the kids’ well-being and health.
“We don’t advertise sugar, high fat or other things that we know will be bad for the health of the children. We have programmes that help children to understand what cyberbullying is and what they can do about it,” Mr Sckon said.
The Akili Network’s CEO promised the Members of the Committee that the Akili Kids TV Channel will work closely with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and teachers to develop a digital curriculum.
On the same breathe, the Members of the Committee observed the imperative role that the television station plays in shaping the future of kids and pledged to legislate in the area to ensure children are protected from paedophiles and cyberbullies.
