Why do introverts prefer to stay alone?

  • Introverts prefer using their time in isolation to unload and thoroughly analyze their lives. This aids them to arrive at well thought conclusions. Spending time alone helps introverts to feel satisfied and unpack their thoughts and recalibrate their strategies.
  • In midst of other people introverts feel their space is limited and tend to think that they are pressurized and as a result they feel totally exhausted. To relieve the pressure the introverts move to solitary environments where they feel less lonely due to their socialization with their thoughts even if in actual sense it is opposite.

These are shy, quiet, reserved and thoughtful individuals who enjoy and maximize their output while alone compared to when in groups.

Introvert people feel more social when interacting with their own thoughts rather than when interacting with fellow people. In presence of fellow people they feel overstimulated, their space constrained and their minds overworked.

A lot of interactions, loud noise, consultations lead to increased levels of dopamine over stimulating the introverts making them to feel annoyed, tired and punished.

Introverts are good at listening, reading, analyzing and interpreting actions and thoughts. They are good counselors.

Introverts show they like you or something instead of saying they like you or something

Introverts like to admire events or people from a distance. They are not good at hiding their affection this makes them stare at whatever is attracting them.

There are two sides in our nervous system the sympathetic and the parasympathetic side. The sympathetic gears our bodies for action triggering fight, fright and flight and increases dopamine in our bodies.

The parasympathetic side is responsible for rest, digestion, relaxation of muscles, storage of energy and metabolism. Acetylcholine increases blood flow into the brain.

Reading, concentrating helps our brains to release acetylcholine which help in relaxation

Introverts usually sleep for a longer time than extroverts.

There are four major types of introverts namely anxious, thinking, social and restrained.

Social introvert

A social introvert prefers interacting with small groups rather than big groups.

They wish to meet and know new people but do not know how to start conversation.

A social introvert likes social events though they require time to recover after attending such events because they will be exhaustive to them.

Thinking introvert

Thinking introverts keep analyzing their lives, trying to look at what suits them best, what troubles them most. They neither worry about social situations nor worry about presence of others.

Thinking introverts have a richer inner life.

Anxious introvert

Anxious introvert prefer to be alone and tend to feel awkward in midst of other people.

They are not confident with their own social skills and that fear persists even when they are in solitude.

The solitude nature of introverts makes them feel uncomfortable and fearful in midst of other people.

Restrained introvert.

They are reserved and can be silent or quiet till they get to know you. They are quiet, dutiful, thoughtful, grounded and reliable

They are usually unemotional, prefer predictive activities and are methodical but slow in pace.

There are various reasons that make introverts wish to stay in solitude. Below are some of those reasons:

Lonely spaces help introverts to avoid being judged by others.

Refresh at quiet and isolated environments.

In a social setup full of close friends and colleagues introverts feel overstimulated, their mind shuts down, thinking becomes hard and discomfort sets in,

The brain of introverts run on energy conserving nervous system making them to feel contented and energized internally while undertaking activities in quiet and lonely spaces.
