Worth Noting:
- Although, not all manage in the nominations and general elections at least some youths manage through both trials and there are supportive Kenyans who choose to support the young politicians.
- If we look at the parliament made in 2017 at least we had several young people like john Paul Mwirigi who was elected as the member of parliament Igembe South constituency at the age 27 years, Paul Ongili Owino also known as Babu Owino member of parliament Embakasi East constituency at the age of 28 years there are many more who have shown their abilities to serve the country.
- Their development projects are very evident in their constituencies. This shows if more young souls are given opportunities they can be able to run the country.
As we are heading to the August general elections, it’s good we look at how the youths of Kenya are engaging in politics. As we all know the future lays in the hands of the young generation and everyone responsibility to support the youth in their political journey.
Many young people have shown interest in many political seats, surprisingly many citizens choose to vote for the old people who maybe have retired from their job. The reason to this is not yet defined but, the fact that the youth do dry politics, by saying dry politics I mean they don’t use the big expensive cars, don’t give church donations; don’t give money to self-help groups. Truth is told, many citizen votes to candidates who have shown ‘support’ during their campaigns. But because these young people have nothing to offer they end up killing their dreams.

Taking a quick example of what happened during the recent party nomination, many young people lost, leaving them in a dilemma of either choose to contest for the seats as independent candidates or they quite. I don’t know why the young politicians have to lose this much or it’s because they lack the necessary knowledge of politics and maybe they conduct their politics in a basic lame way. Loosing during the nominations has led to young politicians loosing hopes in politics.

The young people who have been in the government before should be used as illustrations that the young people can run the country very well. Just as there is a retirement year for various jobs there also should be a specific age set for politicians to retire. What most of these old politicians are doing is after they retire from their job they now join the political world in the name of experience to help the nation. This trend is hindering the abilities of the young people. This policy if implemented can allow many youths to venture in politics. Also positions like the cabinet secretaries can be offered to the youth. If we look closely many of these top seats in the country are being headed by people over 60 years.
Young minds can bring a lot of change to the nation, because they’re young and their minds are evolving with the education and the scientific inventions in the world. They say young people are very vibrant meaning big the government is made up of a large no of young politician then the government and the economy will be very vibrant.
