Women leaders from different parts of the country who are allied to Kenya Kwanza Alliance coalition yesterday attended the launch of the coalition’s Nyeri Women Charter edition.
Dozens of the leaders who were hosted by area Women Representative Rahab Mukami Wachira met at the UDA headquarters in Nyeri town where they outlined various development aspects that will come with the coalition forming the next government.
They thanked Deputy President Dr William Ruto for making room for women at the table where they can not only engage in leadership positions but also play a huge role in the decision making process.
The leaders who were joined by other UDA candidates seeking various seats in the county urged the nearly half a million voters from the county to support them as well as the UDA presidential team.
Locals leaders who also graced the ceremony included governor Mutahi Kahiga, senatorial candidate Wahome Wamatinga,Β Kieni constituency candidate Njoroge Wainaina and his Mathira counterpart Eric Munene.
On his part, governor Kahiga observed, “I have always been a firm supporter of women, recognizing the instrumental role they play in our society having appointed women in my administration’s top managerial positions. My government has also initiated several empowerment programmes to improve the standards of living from the bottom-up especially for our women in vulnerable groups”.
On her part, Ms Mukami outlined several initiatives she has carried on since she assumed the office as she sought their support in her bid to secure a second term.
Some of the issues is funding dozens of women and youth groups, empowering such groups through donating various tools and equipment of trade in different sectors and issuing bursaries to needy students in secondary,Β tertiary and universities.
The local certain members present vowed to support her bid. They also promised to support the other candidates seeking various seats under the sponsorship of UDA.
