The politics of Kenya is ethnic based. This is the reason behind the poor representation in some of the parts of the country. The ethnic mentality in Kenyans is very difficult to deal with. It has now come to the extent that even in the highest positions, you have to choose a leader because he or she is coming from a given community regardless of whether he or she have the leadership qualities or not. For example, in the ongoing politics in Kenya, when it was time to select running mates, we say the major political aspirants, that is, The AZIMIO flag bearer, Raila and the UDA party leader, William Ruto, both running towards acquiring a running mate from Mt. Kenya in order to get the kikuyu’s support. This is a better example to the level of ethnic biasness Kenyans have reached.
If the people of Kenya can get rid of this biased ethnic believes, then the selection of leadership can be proper and Kenyans can be appropriately represented.
Ethnic politics have also lead to the unbalanced development in this country. For example, if you take a tour towards Mt Kenya region and another to Nyanza region, the areas in Mt Kenya region are much developed than the areas in Nyanza. This can be because of the political hatred over the years and the ethnic consideration during the allocation of the government projects.
It is therefore the high time that Kenyans should wake up from ethic brotherhood to all through brotherhood to ensure good representation and equality in development and this is possible especially during this time of politics.
