police probe

In a series of successive engagement meetings held over time, the multi-agency security team in Laikipia joined community leaders at Mithuri AIPCA church for a peace meeting convened by the Caritas organization of the Catholic mission.
Participants at the meeting were drawn from Lonyek, Olmoran, Kirima, Sosian and Survey areas.
The day’s session was chaired by the area Assistant County Commissioner, Mr. Julius Nyaga and attended by security and administrative officers from KDF, NPS, KWS, NGAO and the Ministry of Education. Representatives from different churches in the area also attended.
This being one of the key programmes towards the sustenance of peace in the area, residents had their concerns addressed by the available security officers who further encouraged them to embrace community policing in efforts to fight crime and hostility in the area.
They listed irresponsible remarks by leaders, illegal meetings, human-wildlife conflict, misuse of youth for political expediency as concerns that required immediate attention. In what they termed as more enriching, they requested for the active involvement of youth in peace programmes citing that they are more prone to abuse.
The area Sub-County Police Commander, Mr. Donald Sailor, made his remarks at the meeting and urged residents to live peacefully even as they prepare to vote for their candidates of choice in the General Elections.
