Coffee farmers affiliated to Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society will be paid KSh262 million for their last seasons produce.
The society chairman James Gathua said the farmers will start receiving their proceeds early next week, ahead of schools opening.
Gathua said the coffee farmers in Othaya Constituency will be paid an average of KSh105.15 for every kilogram of cherry delivered. The highest paid factory; Gatugi Pulping Station, will receive KSh118 per kilogram with the lowest; Kiruga station getting KSh96.5.
Equally, the farmers will receive an average of KSh198.05 for every kilogram of Mbuni.
During the 2023/2024 coffee picking season, farmers in the area delivered 2,316,539 kilograms and 93,652 kilograms of Mbuni.
Gathua said this year’s payment is higher compared to the last season by about KSh20.
Yesterday the society management team led by Mr Gathua held a series of meetings in all the 17 pulping stations in the constituency’s coffee growing areas where they endorsed the payments.
Farmers thanked the management for the efficient running of the society.
