It is true that the boychild has been neglected from the government support to the society and much concentration being given to the girlchild.
Today, whenever the topic of gender equality has been mentioned, most organisation and the society at large think of the wellbeing of a girlchild with a claim that girls are weak and vulnerable and need much attention.
Parents too, in most cases also tend to only care about their daughters than their sons whereby they will keenly monitor their daughters’ friends whom they hang out with, places they visits and then they fail to apply the same concerns to their sons whom they believe can take good care of themselves.
We have seen girls being adopted by different bodies or being sponsored to persue their careers than boys who are left to struggle on their own, they are forced to get into ‘Mjengo’ and some into boda boda riding, to make both ends meet. This has led to a big number of boys ending up in streets, involve in drug abuse and dropping out of school. Therefore just like girls, boys too deserve equal opportunities and treatments because they also face challenges that need attention. And so there is need for both government and entire communities to include boys in gender equality programs to help our vulnerable boys out here chase their dreams.
