COP29 Lacks Consensus On Its Commitment; Part Of Leaders Unhappy With The Progress

The Climate Change Conference that is ongoing in Baku, Azerbaijan has raised concerns due to lack of unanimity with the discussions. Leaders from countries that are largely affected and are less emitters say that their reservations seem to be sidelined by the enormous fossil fuel emitters. This is due to lack of signs of consensus yet about the adding of finances to support the vulnerable countries to global warming, as the conference is heading to its second week.
Leaders especially from Africa who took part in proposing those large emitter countries of carbon to contribute a bigger portion, the leaders have shown their unsatisfactory moods with no signs of this matter bearing any fruits moreso from the concerned countries. The wealthier countries are reluctant to increasing their sums to support countries in Africa, Asia and America that are prone to climate change due to the emissions. They push a financial target that will exceed the previous $100 billion annual commitment.
The climate is changing silently and if the effects will go unnoticed then no one can be spared. The floods experienced killing many people in Kenya sometimes back and recently in Spain the devastating floods that caused a lot of damage. The conference is also targeting to limit global warming to 1.5°C below 2°C as it was implemented in the 2016 Paris Agreement.
The vulnerable countries are exposed to difficult situations in cleaning the energy caused by the emissions. Also when the climate changes will be harsh with extreme weather the developing countries are exploited to finding themselves in debts. Nicholas Abuya, Global programme resilience adviser while on Citizen television said,” We cannot allow people like Trump and the President of Argentina to hold the world at hostage. We are not going to tie saving the planet to what happens at White House”.
The COP conference are significant in ensuring that climate change effects are minimized before they cause havoc to human life.Pan African Political strategist Fred Njehu says that most of the different proposals that have been brought to the table have not reached any consensus.
