Dorcas Rigathi Foundation Gets A Boost From Tana Water Works Development Agency

Tana Water Works Development Agency has boosted the efforts of Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi Foundation’s alcoholics’ rehabilitation programme by donating 10,000 tree seedlings. Commissioning the project at the Ngorano Chief’s Centre in Mathira constituency, the agency’s chairman Wanyaga Gathaka lauded the Second Lady’s endeavour to alleviate drugs, alcohol and substance abuse.
Hundreds of former addicts from different parts of the country have been rehabilitated.
At area the area where the Agency chairman visited yesterday, 63 former abusers are angaged in various economic gaining activities. Of the 63 former abusers, 22 have either gotten jobs or joined various learning institutions while the remaining 43 among them 6 university graduates are constructing a rehabilitation centre in the area. The ultra-modern facility is expected to be used in rehabilitating others.
Addressing the seemingly rejuvenated men, Gathaka assured them that opportunities abound for sober and ready to work citizens.
He further committed to ensure his agency’s role in the government’s afforestation bid. The Second Lady’s foundation committed to have each of the six constituencies will have at least 150,000 trees planted by rehabilitated graduates.
“The Second Lady is committed to having the boy child restored to his former productive self,” said the organisation’s Cordinator Bishop Barnabas Kinyua.
“My agency has today commenced a binding partnership with the Foundation by procuring 100,000 seedlings that have been nurtured by the rehabilitation graduates and we shall have a similar number next in line with the Kenya Kwanza government’s dream of planting 15 billion trees in 10 years,” said Gathaka. Present at the function were area Assistant County commissioner Mark Okemwa and Senior Chief Joseph Muhoro Gundi. Gathaka presented the graduates a personal Christmas token of KSh10,000.
The Foundation has sponsored a tree nursery at the Ruguru Health Centre at Kiamariga Township with a capacity of over 3 million seedlings.
