Starting today, the first Africa Assembly of World Scout Parliamentary Union (WSPU) will be taking place in Nyeri County.
The unique Assembly will be taking place at Kagumo Trachers College near Nyeri town where it will end on Saturday.
WSPU is an independent association of Parliamentarians which unites the National Scout Parliamentary Associations (NSPAs) that exist in over 100 countries across the world.
Its main objective is to strengthen National Scout Organizations and World Scouting through the influence of Parliamentarians who believe that Scouting is an effective educational method.
The World Scouts Parliamentary Union (WSPU) Kenya will be holding its first World Scouts Parliamentary Union Africa Assembly under the theme, “Towards Strengthening Parliamentarians Role in Climate Change Mitigation and Youth Involvement through Scouting in Africa” which will bring together members of the National Scout Parliamentary Associations, Members of Parliament who are scouts, and members of regional and sub-national legislation assemblies.
The event is set to run concurrently with the WSPU Africa Youth Assembly bringing together youth from various organizations as well as members of the National Youth Council from countries across Africa and the rest of the world.
The event will climax with a presentation on the youth declaration and action points for 2023-2024.

The delegates will also have an opportunity to visit a Cultural Village where they are expected to experience a cultural night complete with African cuisine.
On Saturday, the delegates will visit the Aberdare National Park for a game drive and planting of trees.

During the entire four days of the assembly, the Nyeri County will be exhibiting some products and services that they offer which include high grade coffee, tea, dairy and other products as well as cultural artifacts and related products.
Among our high profile guests who are expected to grace the occasion where they will be hosted by Nyeri County governor Mutahi Kahiga include Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula who is also the WSPU Kenya Patron, Hon Gyu Back Ahn who is the WSPU President, Senate Assembly Speaker Amason Kingi, MP, Ms Teresia Mbaika who is the Principal Secretary in the office of the Deputy President and Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie who is the WSPU among others.
