Governor Mutahi Kahiga CEC member nominee vetted

The County Assembly of Nyeri Committee on Appointments Chaired by the Majority Leader and Mahiga Ward MCA James Kanyugo yesterday vetted the nominee for the position of the County Executive Committee Member (CEC) County Public Service and Solid Waste Management Mr. Simon Ndirangu Gachunia.
During the vetting exercise, the nominee was put to task to highlight some of the key strategies he intends to use to effectively tackle and address the numerous challenges facing Nyeri County in solid waste management.
He was further questioned on the useful mechanisms he will apply to ensure the people of Nyeri are able to enjoy their fundamental right to clean and healthy environment as reinforced in the vision of Nyeri County, “A Wealthy County with happy, healthy and secure people”. The members emphasized that improper management of waste pose a threat to sustainable development hence the need to safeguard the environment and come up with strategies towards sustainable waste management.
The Committee posed questions on how he will address the challenge of a soaring wage bill if given an opportunity to serve and how he will help to promote high standards of professional ethics in the County Public Service among others.
In his closing remarks, the Majority Leader called upon all leaders and employees in Nyeri County to firmly defend devolution for the citizens to enjoy its benefits. The Committee is expected to prepare and table a report to the House on the suitability of the nominee for appointment to the position.
