Hundreds of Othaya constituency residents were yesterday offered free medical check up and treatment.
The residents, mostly from Iria-ini Ward were hosted at Thunguri Dispensary during the free medical camp that was organised by Mwai Kibaki Hospital in partnership with the area MP Wambugu Wainaina alias Mount Kenya.
The MP who lauded the hospital fraternity for the free camp adding that such exercises have boosted disease prevention and control in the area.
He also urged residents to ensure regular screening for various diseases to ensure they are medically fit for maximum productivity.
The residents were were screened for diseases such as Diabetes, High blood pressure, Cancer among others.
Both the MP and Dr. Walter Gwaro from the Level VI facility also urged residents to ensure that they ensure that their NHIF insurance is always up to date in order to easily access medical services in accredited facilities.
“I will regularly be organizing with a team of local medical personnel on how they can be having regular visits on matters of screening and care to those people affected so that they can be up to date with their health,” he added.
The MP also urged the County Government of Nyeri to improve medical facilities mostly those near learning institutions in order for students to benefit.
Wainaina also thanked the medical personnel from the hospital, the local Kenya Medical Training College fraternity and Othaya Level IV Hospital for the support in preparations and participation of the camps.
The beneficiaries thanked the institution and the MP for the medical camps saying it was Godsend during these hard economic times.
