Journey To Washington Accord: The Board Conducts A Mock Evaluation
Engineers Board of Kenya and Moi University officials after conducting the mock evaluation exercise

Engineering Board of Kenya yesterday held a mock evaluation exercise at Moi University whose aim was to assess the preparedness of the university’s engineering programme and to simulate the accreditation process under the Washington Accord framework.
Speaking on behalf of EBK chairman, Prof. Sylvester Abuodha stressed the Board’s vision to raise Kenya’s engineering programs to global standards.
He highlighted the need for collaborative frameworks to harmonize differing positions regarding the recognition of accredited academic programs by professional bodies.
“Let’s seize this opportunity to elevate our engineering education standards, ensuring that our graduate engineering programs are internationally recognized,” he urged.
The Registrar, Eng. Margaret Ogai noted that since the Board has been working towards acceding to the Washington Accord, it had undergone mentorship by the Board of Engineers Malaysia and the Pakistan Engineering Council to align Kenya’s programs with global engineering education standards.
She further observed that similar assessments have been conducted at three universities so far.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research, Extension, and Student Affairs at the University, Prof. Isaac Njuguna Kimengi, commended the Board for its efforts as he applauded the growth of the institution’s School of Engineering since its founding in 1986, calling it vibrant and active.
He committed to working with the Board to ensure the elevation of the institution’s recognition globally.
