Juja constituency MP George Koimburi was yesterday released on a cash bail of KSh200,000 after pleading not guilty to six charges of forgery of his academic certificates in a Kiambu court.
Koimburi faced the six counts which he had been charged with in 2021 and where the matter was withdrawn under 87a.
The Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday opened the same charges and introduced a new charge qof failing to attend court against the legislature arguing that they had acquired new evidence hence introduction of the charges in court once again.
The legislator who appeared before Principal Magistrate Mwanamkuu Sudi was accused of forging a Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) certificate between November and December 1994 to secure a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The second count states that he forged a certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) between September 2011 and April 2012.
Within the same period, the third count adds, Koimburi secured an allegedly forged certificate from the School of Human Resource Development from JKUAT.
Koimburi’s fourth count is “knowingly and fraudulently” forging a KCSE certificate from KNEC at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on March 8, 2021.
On the same date, the legislator presented his certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from JKUAT to EACC.
In the sixth count, Koimburi is being charged with presenting his School of Human Resource Development certificate from JKUAT to EACC on the aforementioned date.
The legislator will today plead to the seventh count of failing to attend court after a fierce rebattle between the defense team and the DPP ensued over admission of the charge in the charge sheet where the court will give a direction.
Koimburi was arrested on Tuesday by DCI where a charge sheet had been prepared with two counts under the Computer and Cybercrimes Act.
