In a meeting held yesterday at Nairobi Serena Hotel Narc-Kenya led by party leader Hon. Martha Karua joined Azimio la Umoja coalition which is led by Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a statement read by Narc Kenya Secretary General Michael Orwa the party will not field a presidential candidate in August general elections instead they will support Hon. Raila Odinga.
He started by welcoming all the guests to the press conference on behalf of National Executive Committee (NEC) the leadership and the membership of Narc-Kenya Party.
Recalling the resolution of the party membership during the NDC on Friday 18th February 2022 specifically resolution number 4 of regarding fielding of presidential candidate in August general elections, resolution number 5 of continued consultations and discussions with like-minded parties in political and civic space with a view of providing a clear political direction for their membership ahead of the next general elections and resolution number 6 on the matter of fidelity to the constitution of Kenya 2010 and full compliance with the electoral and related laws in all their engagements in pursuit of such partnerships and relationships taking into consideration that we are just left with 4 months to the general elections he stated the following:
On the matter of fidelity to the constitution and compliance with the law the Narc-Kenya party is convinced that the political party act as amended and read with other laws make it illegal to belong to more than one political party and more than one coalition at any point in time.
On the matter of parties the party membership in One Kenya Alliance (OKA). He reaffirmed their commitment to a politics of decency guided by the ideals of transparency, mutual respect, truthfulness, inclusivity and above all utmost good faith.
Having signed a cooperation agreement with other partners under the auspices of One Kenya Alliance (OKA), as a party they will continue to aspire to higher ideals and strive to live these expectations in all their dealings with members of their party, partners, the expectant public and the people of Kenya subsequently on this matter the Narc-Kenya is grateful for their journey with their brothers and sisters in OKA. More importantly that journey has now come to an end.
On matter of resolution number 4 of the NDC the Narc- Kenya shall not field a presidential candidate during the August 2022 general elections.
On the matter of affirmative action and strengthening their brand as an inclusive political party the party directed that all persons with disabilities who wish to run for elective office in August general elections in the Narc-Kenya party ticket be given a 100 percent discount on nomination fees.
On the matter of resolution number 5 of the NDC in particular authority to hold consultations with like-minded partners in the political and civic space with a view of providing clear political direction for their membership ahead of 2022 August elections the party wishes to inform the membership, partners and the nation that the party has chosen to pursue conversations, consultations and the path of working together with the presidential flag bearer of Azimio La Umoja.
According to Narc-Kenya party secretary general there is ideological convergence between his party and Azimio, social democratic ideals and the legacy of Hon. Raila Odinga. They ascribe to those ideals and the history of struggle , liberation and standing for what they think is enshrined in the principles of social justice, inclusivity and the building a culture of democratic tradition for this country so that everyone has a stake in the country. He continued and called for a spirit of sacrifice not compromise.
On her part Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua said they must look for leaders who have demonstrated track record of being selfless and putting the interest of the nation above theirs and people who can fulfill promises.
She however acknowledged that no side across the political divide that is both Azimio La Umoja and Kenya Kwanza Alliance that has only saints rather all sides have people who may have looted in the past and who do not believe in the rule of law but also all sides have good people.
Karua told the conference that upon careful evaluation of the leading coalitions in the run up to August general elections Nark-Kenya have opted to join Azimio La Umoja whom they share a lot in common in their struggle to liberate Kenya and fight for new constitution all these in the interests of Kenyans.
“I have been looking keenly and have been able to identify a critical mass of good people within the Azimio coalition and that is all what is needed to steer the nation in the right direction.
I have been in the trenches with the Azimio presidential flag bearer comrade Raila Odinga. We have come a long way in the struggle and fight for second liberation and the constitution and when we have had disagreements, we have been able to lay them on the table and overcome them in the interest of the people of Kenya.” Karua remarked.
“We are convinced that we will be able to forge forward in the best interests of the people of Kenya putting always the interest of Kenya ahead of any other partisan or personal interest.
She added that her party is committed to popularize Hon. Odinga and his 10 point agenda.
“From now on Nark-Kenya and I are committed to popularize the Azimio presidential flag bearer comrade Raila Odinga and his 10 point agenda which is part of the social justice ideals that we stand for.” Karua added

“Martha wears scars of struggle proudly and will continue marching on till we reach the mountain top and plant the flag of liberation and remember all those who did not make it there” Raila remarked.
Raila continued to say that their political opponents have been apologists to the revolution whereas their side is that of revolutionaries.
