Merck Foundation Awards Kenyan Journalists, Launches It’s Tv Program “Our Africa”

Merck Foundation Launches It’s Tv Program “Our Africa in Kenya, during Merck Foundation Annual Alumni Summit 2023.
Speaking during the launch of the program at Sarova Hotel on 4 May 2023 Kenya, Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej CEO Merck Foundation, said that she believes in the important role that media plays to influence our society to create a cultural shift with the aim to break the stigma around infertility, raising awareness about infertility prevention, and empowering girls and women through education.
The Merck Foundation Media Recognition awards recognized media practitioners from Kenya who have played a key role in amplifying their vision to transform public healthcare.
During the event Elizabeth Angira was awarded as the winner Online Category from East African Countries ,Mercy Tyra Murengu (Media Max and Beldine Waliaura ( Standard Group ) Pauline Akoth among others.
The “Our Africa by Merck Foundation” TV program will broadcast every Saturday at 5:00 PM and every Wednesday at 6:30 AM on Kenya’s KTN Home, starting from May 6th, 2023.
The program features African Fashion Designers, Singers, and prominent experts from various domains with the aim of raising awareness and creating a culture shift across Africa on issues such as diabetes, ending child marriage, supporting girl education, women’s empowerment, stopping GBV, ending FGM, and breaking infertility stigma, among other social and health issues affecting the continent.

Merck Foundation have provided more than 125 scholarships in Kenya in critical specialties such as – Oncology, Embryology, Diabetes, Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine, Endocrinology, Sexual and Reproductive Medicine, Gastroenterology, Respiratory Medicine, Acute Medicine, Biotechnology of Human Assisted Reproduction and Embryology, Critical Care, Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Urology and many more.”
Merck Foundation, established in 2017, is the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people and advance their lives through science and technology.
The efforts are primarily focused on improving access to quality & equitable healthcare solutions in underserved communities, building healthcare and scientific research capacity and empowering people in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with a special focus on women and youth.
Through “Our Africa,” Merck Foundation has established the first “Fashion and Art community with Purpose” across 20 countries to break the silence and be the voice of the voiceless on critical and sensitive social and health issues in Africa and beyond.
Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation, will host the show along with co-host Brian Mulondo from Uganda.
In the program, they will discuss and address various social and health issues relevant to Africa in a unique way through the African Community of Fashion and Art with Purpose.
