Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi
As cases of femicide rise in Kenya, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for urgent action to curb the violence. Speaking during the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Mudavadi condemned the persistent attacks on women and urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
Femicide, the killing of women due to their gender, has become a worrying trend in the country. Recent cases, including intimate partner violence and brutal attacks on women, have sparked outrage, with many Kenyans calling for justice. Mudavadi highlighted the need for a collective societal approach, urging men to take an active role in ending gender-based violence. He emphasized that these acts should never be normalized, adding that the government is committed to protecting women and girls.
The 16 Days of Activism campaign, observed globally, aims to create awareness and inspire action against gender violence. In Kenya, the campaign is a platform to advocate for policy changes, community education, and survivor support. Mudavadi’s strong stance has been hailed as a crucial step in addressing the root causes of gender-based violence and fostering a culture of respect and equality.
This call to action comes amid broader efforts to tackle gender inequality and promote safer communities for women across the country. However, the true measure of success will be the tangible outcomes from this renewed focus on ending femicide.
