The Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA), through its welfare arm, the Kenya Diaspora Alliance Welfare Association (KWA), has unveiled a new group medical insurance plan designed specifically for Kenyans living and working overseas, as well as their families back home.
The plan, launched in partnership with Kenbright Insurance Brokers, Jubilee Health Insurance, and BUPA Global, seeks to give diaspora families access to reliable and affordable healthcare both in Kenya and abroad.
Speaking during the launch, Jubilee Health Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Njeri Jomo, noted that the partnership reflects a shared goal to strengthen family connections through reliable healthcare.
“This initiative brings people together beyond borders. It’s about parents, children, and grandparents knowing that no matter the distance, they can still access care when they need it. Our role as Jubilee Health is to make that care available here at home,” she said.
The new product builds on the success of the KWA Group Last Expense Insurance, introduced three years ago to help diaspora families handle bereavement costs with dignity. Encouraged by the positive feedback from members, KWA has now expanded its focus to cover day to day and emergency health needs.
This launch , has been looked as a long-needed solution since for years, Kenyans abroad have struggled to deal with medical emergencies affecting their families back home. Many have had to rely on online fundraising or community contributions whenever illness struck.
“This medical cover comes straight from what our members asked for. They wanted a system they could trust, one that ensures their loved ones are taken care of without the stress of emergency fundraising,” explained Dr. Shem Ochuodho, Global Chair of the Kenya Diaspora Alliance.
Mr. Uditha Jayaratne, BUPA Global Kenya Chief Executive Officer, highlighted that the partnership would allow Kenyans abroad to access a worldwide medical network that includes over 2.4 million healthcare providers.
“We understand that health doesn’t stop at national boundaries. This partnership ensures Kenyans living overseas receive quality healthcare wherever they are. We’re proud to stand with the Kenyan community at home and abroad,” he remarked.
Under the plan, Jubilee Health Insurance will handle medical cover for families and dependents living in Kenya, offering inpatient, outpatient, and specialist services. BUPA Global will provide international cover for diaspora members, including hospital treatment, specialist consultations, and medical evacuation where necessary.
Kenbright Insurance Brokers will manage the scheme’s coordination, member on boarding, and policy support, while KWA will serve as the secretariat for diaspora members seeking guidance on available cover options.
This launch, marks another milestone for the Kenya Diaspora Alliance in its mission to support Kenyans abroad through sustainable, community-driven solutions that bridge the gap between home and the wider world.
