President William Ruto appointed a 129-member National Committee to review the new university funding model. This follows issues recently raised by several quarters including parents and students on the new model. Ruto announced four workstreams that will be divided into sections; The first team on the Review and Refinement of the New Funding Model for Universities and Technical, Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVETs) will be headed by Karuti Kanyinga and Dibora Zainab Hirbo. While the workstream on appeals arising from the categorization of students into various eligibility bands for allocation of scholarships and loans will be headed by Walubengo Waningilo and Lucy Machugu who will serve as co chairs. The workstream on Structure of Student Loans will be headed by Robert Oduor Otieno and Aron Kiprotich Bett, while that on the Review of the Cost of University Academic Programmes will be headed by Mohamed S. Rajab and Patrick Malanga. The committee will report to and be accountable to the President through the Cabinet Secretary for Education

Former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) Chief Executive Officer, CPA Geoffrey Gitau Mwangi yesterday refuted claims that he had abandoned his quest to run for the Nakuru County gubernatorial seat in the next General Election. “Contrary to the circulating fake news, I wish to state that I remain unbowed, resolute and I am in no way swayed from the course of making Nakuru brighter by any imagined or otherwise maliciously crafted distractions,” Mwangi posted on his Facebook page. Mwangi is widely expected to run for the seat and his initiative has in the recent past received endorsement from different groups and influential individuals in the county.

detectives based at Kasarani Sub County headquarters were granted 30 days custodial order by the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Makadara to continue holding Pascaline Peter, the main suspect behind a multi million Shylock and real estate fraud. The artifice affecting over 300 Kenyans who lost million of shillings has seen the detectives record statements from over sixty victims with the number expected to quadruple over the course of time. The detectives will be seeking to among others gather more evidence on the fraud to ensure that a water tight case is presented before court to ensure justice is served to all.
