The Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary, Florence Bore, has emphasised the need for private children’s homes to close within eight years if they do not meet the Children’s Act of 2022’s requirements. Bore visited Kisii Children’s Home and expressed appreciation for their efforts in caring for children, but emphasised the government’s responsibility to provide care through government-run facilities. She also emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing oversight of private children’s homes due to concerns about child trafficking. Bore appealed to residents to desist from abandoning or dumping their children in unfit homes and called for volunteers to volunteer information on anyone involved in child trafficking.
Nandi leaders and farmers have called on the Kenyan government to review maize prices, arguing that the minimum producer price is too low due to the high cost of production. They believe that the current price of Sh4,000 per 90-kg bag of maize offered by the state is too low and that all costs must be considered before a price is declared. They also suggest that the government should use agricultural extension officers to determine the cost of production before announcing new prices. The government is projected to produce 44 million bags of maize, with over 23 million bags from high-producing counties in the North Rift region.
Anne Wang’ombe, the immediate Principal Secretary, State Department for Performance and Delivery Services, and Veronica Nduva, the immediate Principal Secretary, State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, signed and exchanged handing over documents yesterday following the recent reorganisation of the government by President Dr. William Ruto that resulted in the reassignment of several Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries.
Nduva takes over as PS Performance and Delivery Management (now moved to the Ministry of Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management), and Wang’ombe is the new PS Gender and Affirmative Action in the new Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage.
Nakuru County Government has expanded its functions by taking over the Kenya National Library Services (KNLS), according to County Secretary Dr. Samuel Mwaura. The move is a boost to the devolved unit, enhancing ICT and youth empowerment programs. The Inter-Governmental Technical Relations Committee approved the transfer.
The Noonkopir Afya Foundation, in collaboration with Kajiado County Government, Family Bank, and ED Source Africa, held a breast cancer awareness campaign in Kitengela. The campaign emphasized the importance of early detection and breast health education, highlighting the financial burden of advanced stages of cancer.
