Parliamentary Defence Committee Tours KDF Health Facility In Westlands

The National Assembly Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations yesterday toured Forces Referral and Research Hospital (FRRH) at Kabete, off Waiyaki Way.
Led by committee Vice-Chair Major (Rtd) Bashir Abdullah from Mandera-North, members visited the facility to assess the progress made so far, the challenges faced, the opportunities available, and the value of the money expended on the project.
During a briefing by the KDF team undertaking the project, members sought clarifications on among other issues, the funding status of the project, and it’s expected completion date.
The project is a state-of-the-art 700-bed medical facility that will serve the Kenya Defence Force (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), National Intelligence Service (NIS), Kenya Coast Guard Servicev(KCGS), National Youth Service (NYS), and their families.
The facility estimated to cost Sh19.3B will have several specialized parts, such as a cancer center, a medical school complex, an oxygen plant, an accident and emergency block, and a mortuary.
Bashir underscored the projected benefits of the facility, and pledged to rally the National Assembly to allocate necessary resources for its completion.
“Clearly this facility will be of benefit to our disciplined forces and even Members of the public and it’s important that it is completed,” said Bashir.
Committee members including Martha Wangari (Gilgil) Abdikadir Mohammed (Lagdera), Clement Sloya, Terresia Mwangi, Hassan Yusuf (Kamukunji) and Joshua Kandie (Baringo Central) also sought to know the extent to which members of the public could access the facility.
The KDF team clarified that cases of admission for the public would be on a referral basis.
Vice Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces Lt. General Jonah Mwangi, who was meeting the Committee for the first time since his recent promotion pledged to work closely with the Committee to complete the project and other key undertakings by the KDF.
