The most influential political leaders in the country; President William Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Odinga have been urged not to interfere with upcoming by-elections but instead allow concerned voters make a free choice.
The New Democrats (TND) political party National chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge says the political wave that was witnessed during the August 9th General Election should not play part in the elections slated for December 8, 2022 and January 5, 2023.
Speaking in Nairobi on Saturday when he presented the nomination certificate for his party candidate for Utawala ward in Embakasi East constituency, Dr Mathenge said he was optimistic that his party through Peter Ndung’u Chutha will win the seat.
He said his party so far has 13 ward seats in various parts of the country and was hopeful that just like before the General Election when the party floored other parties like UDA and Jubilee during the Lake Naivasha ward by-elections, this time, they win the Utawala seat.
The Utawala ward seat by-elections will be conducted on December 8 alongside other four other wards and Bungoma county senatorial seat.
The other wards are Ololmasani in Narok county, Kyome/Thaana ward in Kitui County, Mumias North in Kakamega county and South Gem in Siaya County.
The Bungoma Senator’s seat fell vacant following the election of Moses Wetangula as the Speaker of the National Assembly.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has also set other by-elections for January 5 next year. These are two Members of Parliament; Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Aden Duale ( Garissa Township) who were recently appointed Cabinet Secretaries. Also set for by-election is the Elgeyo Marakwet senatorial seat following the elevation of Senator Kipchumba Murkomen also to a Cabinet Secretary.
On the same day, voters registered at Sheila ward in Lamu county will also vote another ward representative.
