Safina Party has unveiled Florence Atieno, better known to her supporters as Atis Dollar, as its new National Women Coordinator in a spirited event that drew more than 200 women leaders from across Nairobi. The appointment, announced during a gathering attended by party leader Jimi Wanjigi and his deputy Willis Otieno, was cast as a major step toward strengthening women’s role in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held in Nairobi at the Safina Party headquarters, was charged with energy as women leaders sang, danced, and pledged their support to Atieno, who is well known for her outspoken defense of community rights and grassroots mobilization.

In her acceptance speech, Atieno said her appointment was not about her as an individual but a reflection of the party’s recognition of the central role women must play in shaping Kenya’s political and economic future.

“This is not just my victory, it is a victory for every woman who has ever been told politics is not her place. We have been sidelined for too long. From today, Safina women will speak with one voice. We will shape policies, influence decisions, and secure a future where women and young people are not left behind,” Atieno declared.

She urged women to step out of the shadows of political spectatorship and embrace leadership, promising to use her new platform to push for accountability, equality, and economic empowerment.

“I stand here not just as Florence Atieno, but as Atis Dollar, a daughter of ordinary Kenyans who understand what it means to struggle for dignity and fairness. My mission is clear: to make sure the voices of women are not ignored, but amplified at the highest levels of leadership,” she added.

Safina’s Deputy Party Leader, lawyer Willis Otieno, used the occasion to rally women and youth, saying Atieno’s appointment was a signal that the party is serious about creating space for new voices in leadership.

“Atieno is a fighter. She has never shied away from speaking truth to power, and she represents the kind of leadership Safina stands for bold, courageous, and uncompromising on justice. This team you see today is the face of Kenya’s future, determined to rescue the country from the grip of failed leadership,” he remarked.

The Safina deputy Party leader further dismissed suggestions that Safina was a small player in the political field, insisting that the party was growing stronger through grassroots mobilization and would offer Kenyans a real alternative in 2027.

Party leader Jimi Wanjigi echoed the sentiments, stressing that Safina was determined to chart a new path for the country. He launched a scathing attack on the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of burdening citizens with policies that have failed to deliver.

“The government is draining Kenyans through endless levies and ineffective programs. The Social Health Authority (SHA) is not working and we cannot continue forcing Kenyans to pay for a system that does not serve them. Once Safina is elected, we will scrap unnecessary payments and introduce reforms that put citizens first,” he stated.

He also emphasized that his campaign is built on restoring dignity to ordinary Kenyans through policies that prioritize food security, job creation, and access to quality healthcare.

The women leaders who accompanied Atieno described her as a symbol of resilience and a trailblazer who embodies the struggles and aspirations of many. They promised to rally behind her leadership and strengthen Safina’s outreach programs in communities across the country.

Their presence underscored Safina’s renewed focus on mobilizing women as a core constituency, recognizing that women have long been a decisive factor in Kenyan elections.

During the meeting, the party  leaders said that the Safina Party has always  positioned itself as a champion of justice and accountability, though it has struggled to break into mainstream political dominance. With Wanjigi at the helm, the party has signaled its intention to run a serious campaign in 2027, promising a government that is more transparent and people-centered.

The party is not only appealing to women voters but also sending a message that it intends to challenge the traditional male-dominated political order.

“We are not waiting for change, we are building it. Safina will be the home where women’s dreams are not dismissed, but nurtured into reality,” Atieno concluded.

The announcement has now set the stage for Safina to expand its grassroots mobilization, with women leaders expected to play a central role in the party’s push toward the 2027 general elections.
