Speaker Wetang’ula Asks Legislators To Use The Church To Serve Their Communities

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has asked MPs to collaborate with churches in provision of development and other services to the communities they serve.
Wetang’ula noted that the church is the foundation of society which is pivotal in socio-economic development of the country and can be effective in ensuring MPs drive their development agenda.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Omboko Milembe, a member of the Speaker’s panel, during the launch of the Seventh Day Parliamentary (SDA) Caucus chaired by Elder Martin Peters Owino, the Speaker indicated that the Church is a corner stone of society where everyone looks up to for spiritual nourishment.
“Faith-based caucuses play a crucial role in parliament, underscoring the importance of diversity and pluralism in democratic societies. These caucuses contribute to the richness of democratic discourse by representing the diverse perspectives and values of religious communities. They play a pivotal role in shaping policies that respect religious freedoms, uphold ethical standards, and promote the well-being of society as a whole”, reads the speech.
Milemba who is also the Emuhaya MP emphasized that Parliament of Kenya recognized the SDA Parliamentary caucus alongside other faith-based caucuses that also include the Catholic Members Parliamentary Caucus which nature’s religious growth in the institution.
He further reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to religious freedom and tolerance by respecting the beliefs and practices of all religious communities, represented in Parliament and in the country.
He called for Unity among parliamentarians regardless of their religious affiliations, in the pursuit of common goals that benefit the nation.
He encouraged the members of the SDA Faith to actively engage in the legislative process, shaping policies, and laws that resonate with the values of their faith.
“Your unique perspective and insights are invaluable in addressing the challenges and opportunities that face our nation”, read the speech.
Milemba challenged the congregation to formulate initiatives aimed towards addressing Community Health Initiatives; Education Partnerships; Community Development Projects; Disaster Relief and Preparedness; Interfaith Dialogues; and Advocacy for Social Justice among others.
The chair of the caucus, Elder Martin Peters Owino called for unity among members of the caucus saying that they will explore local, regional and global opportunities in serving God for humanity.
Other members of the caucus present during the inauguration included; Cythnia Muge, Jerusha Mong’ina and Andrew Adipo Okuome.
