The connection between our mind and body is a one way how our mental health and physical health are linked, constantly communicating with each other. The mind-body connection refers to the relationship between our mental and emotional state and our physical health. One thoughts, feelings and emotions can have a direct impact on our physical well-being.
For example, as soon as we have a negative or anxious thought in our mind, or perception of a potential threat or stressor, we unconsciously begin to contract muscle fibers in our body whereas we start breathing more shallowly than normally. This could happen over and over again during the day depending on how many perceived stressors we are reacting to for instance pressure at work of impending overdue deadlines, overjudging ourselves or something someone said negatively about you. This means it is possible to experience intense physical symptoms at the mere thought of something stressful. Our bodies and minds are not meant for as many stressors as we usually face in day to day lives.
Alternatively, physical health issues can also affect our mental and emotional state. For example, if we are in pain, injured, diagnosed with an illness or experiencing negative responses in our lives, we may become depressed and anxious due to perceived or real limitations this is placing in our lives, either short- or long-term effects. The relationship between our mental health and physical health outlines the importance of addressing both facets of our well-being.
Evidently mental health and physical health are involvedly connected, with conditions in one area often impacting the other expressively. Mental health matters can patent physically through various symptoms, while physical health problems can also contribute to the development of mental health concerns.

Feeling unhappy or down can do more than just affect your mood. Those feeling depressed may desert self-care practices like healthy eating and exercising which may lead to weight imbalances, low energy levels and probably increased risk of long-lasting diseases, which can also have an impact on our immune systems.
For instance, when someone is dealing with depression, usually if has a significant effect on how their immune system responds. It might make their immune not to work as well as it is supposed, making it harder to fight off illnesses. Poor mental health can make every day tasks more difficult and physically declined.

These are health-related long lasting conditions with persistent effects. Their social and economic consequences can impact on people’s quality of life. These conditions may require ongoing medical attention, management, and lifestyle adjustments. Examples of chronic diseases include diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), heart diseases, arthritis, certain types of cancer and obesity. Managing chronic diseases typically involves extensive healthcare assistance, lifestyle adjustments so that one is monitored to enhance quality of life and minimize life risks and worries.

Sleeping usually commands a specific quality, this refers to how well you sleep and how satisfied you are with it. It’s not about how long one takes sleeping but also how restful and refreshed you feel after the sleep.
People with mental health conditions are more likely to suffer from sleep disorders, like insomnia of sleep apnea. Insomnia can make it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. Sleep apnea leads to breathing problems, which can cause you to wake up frequently. Good sleep is essential for physical and mental wee-being of a person. Making a good sleep atmosphere and implementing healthy sleep habits are key for healthier sleep value.
- Smoking and Substance Abuse
Most personnel with mental health problems tend to turn smoking and substance abuse as a way to try and control the situations they are in, which results in damaging their physical health through organ damage and addiction. Those with mental health conditions among smokers are extensively known to smoke a higher number of cigarettes these results to multiple lung infections.
Depression leads to a low level of the chemical dopamine. Dopamine are responsible for the positive feelings in one’s brain and the nicotine in cigarettes influences the creation of the chemical dopamine and that’s why smoking is used as a depression manager hence, nicotine will only establish temporary relief which will demand for recurring need to smoke leading to addiction and eventually ensuing to lungs shutting down.

It is hard when you have a mental health problem to take note of how your body needs to operate especially where prescriptions are required one needs guidance to take care of what needs to be done.

Many physical health conditions can affect our mental health, for example cancer, diabetes, asthma, and high blood pressure. Your physical well-being also has an impact on your mental health.

Lack of ability to move around due to illness or injury and birth related conditions can lead to feelings of fitting or belonging. This will basically impact your mental health as there is low self-esteem due to factors like social stigma, daily living challenges, limited access to opportunities, sense of isolation and having to experience a life full of demands that you cannot meet, fundamentally, this results to total distress and uneasiness in the community.
Physical limitations will basically lead to frustrations and stress which will impact mental well-being. Feeling helpless as there is difficulty in performing daily activities limits independence as the environment is not designed to be accessible to people with incapacities can create substantial challenges and contribute to emotional state of frustrations.
