Worth Noting:
- We need a world where policy makers care more about the environmental aspects of any given project over the monetary value. Every company should have a system of how they dispose of their wastes. We should as well embrace the 3R’s; reduce, reuse and recycle. Use containers that can be used for other purposes to avoid environment pollution.
- This needs us to be cautious in our shopping habits. Let’s do away with merciless clearing of forests. These are out water catchment areas. We are called upon to volunteer for cleanups in our communities. This includes our local markets and public amenities. How best can we give back to our communities?
The World Environment Day was first observed in 1973. This is a day characterized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as “a global platform for inspiring positive change”. The event is celebrated on June 5 every year. And this time, the global environment summit that first took place 50 years ago will be hosted by Sweden. The theme of World Environment Day 2022 is Only One Earth, focusing on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”. The campaign shines a spotlight on climate action, nature action and pollution action while encouraging everyone, everywhere to live sustainably. Now more than ever, we need to remember that we only have one Earth and are running out of time to save our planet. Where next when Earth is no more? Are we having in mind what will our future generations hold onto? Humanity dictates that we place other persons in our minds before making any step that could be disastrous.
We need to appreciate the technological and innovation advancements, it’s a sign of growth. However, this raises a huge concern about our environment. Most machines emit hazardous gas into the ozone layer. All this is leading to a climate crisis. This has resulted in extreme weather events that kill or displace thousands, while resulting in so much economic losses. Food production is now an issue because of the unpredictable rain seasons. We are experiencing long droughts that have claimed lives of animals and innocent beings. These disastrous consequences are pushing humanity towards a change of priorities. Humans impact the physical environment through pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation. Changes like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water. These negative impacts can affect human behavior and can prompt mass migrations or battles over clean water.

We need to take up the initiative of educating those who are ignorant about conserving the environment. The best way to make this happen is to spread awareness and make people realise just how dire our positions are. To do so, we need to stress on just how close the Earth is collapsing to the point of no return. Choose sustainable and renewable sources of energy. Our farm supplies should be considered not to mess up with the quality of the soil. Use long-lasting light bulbs that won’t be thrown away few weeks after being purchased.
Lastly, always leave a mark where you step. Leave the earth a better place than you found it. Many non-governmental organizations have dived into tree planting. This is an opportunity for today to also join and plant a tree. It is a collective action that we will create the transformative environmental change we need. We need to advance to a more sustainable Earth. A planet where everyone a
