World Bank And Ministry Of Water Officials Meet Over Irrigation Projects
World Bank and Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation officials during yesterday's consultative meeting.

Representatives from the World Bank and those in Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation yesterday held a consultative meeting to review progress in some projects.
The Principal Secretary State Department for Irrigation Mr. Ephantus Kimotho chaired the consultative meeting where the World Bank was led by Mr. Pieter Waalewjin.
This was a consultative meeting to give an update on the status of the Irrigation projects being implemented by the State Department of Irrigation being financed by the GoK in partnership with the World Bank.
The meeting deliberated on completion of the Lower Nzoia and delivering water to the Bunyala Irrigation scheme by gravity, fast tracking and unlocking of the implementation of the Mwache multipurpose Irrigation project and conceptualization of the National Irrigation Sector Investment plan (NISIP) for a programmatic approach in irrigation development and management and catalysing private capital through PPP and farmer Led Irrigation Development (FLID).
Speaking while addressing the meeting Kimotho hailed the World Bank for the financing support it has been extending to the government and specifically on irrigation projects.
In regards to Mwache Multi purpose Irrigation project, the PS noted that the ministry will continue to engage with the counties on a joint framework for the governance of the bulk water supplies as provided within the financing agreement and update the bank accordingly.
He urged the Mwache project implementation team to explore partnership with other relevant government agencies to enhance technical support on the degraded Mwache catchment.
On his part, the World Bank Task Force team leader emphasized the need to comply with social and environmental safeguards while implementing projects and the need for timely completion of the projects.
Also present were the Irrigation Secretary Mr Aboud Moeva, Director Irrigation Water Management Mr. Benard Onyango, Director Irrigation Management Mr. Maurice Opondo, KWSCRP Project Manager Mr. Vincent Kabuti and other Senior Officers.
