As political campaigns are gearing up to August general elections, Kericho County residents have been urged to maintain peace as aspirants move out and about wooing voters.
Kericho County Assembly Majority leader Hezron Ngetich has asked members of the public especially the youth to distance themselves from politicians who preach incitement and to choose their leaders wisely.
He also urged the political class to shun incitement and do meaningful campaigns and stop using young people to fight their opponents.
“All aspirants should be given a platform to sell their agendas to the public and allow voters to make their own choices,” Ngetich said.
Meanwhile Ngetich expressed dissatisfaction with the new Political Act that requires a member who wants to change parties to resign from the previous party, saying the government is using punitive laws to disadvantage voters seeking to change their membership saying voting is a democratic right so is changing parties.
He further expressed challenges voters from the region are facing while registering members to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) where he asked the party’s Executive Council to establish an easier and efficient way of registering members other than through ecitizen which is disadvantageous to the old as well as time consuming.
