Recently, I engrossed myself in Nassur El-Tablaz Tab’an’s Sexual Perceptions, Culture and the Law- a poetry anthology. Carolyne Afroetry MA (The Vice President of Poets’ Association of Uganda), on the foreword page says, “The poems are brilliant and educative…” Indeed, it’s an educative masterpiece.
Page 64-65 presents a poem, “Wrong Turn” by Nassur Tab’an El-Tablaz. It’s a complete mirror of reality. A complete reality of romantic relationships– more so amongst the young.
The lines in the fifth stanza;
“You realize we only make love
With no effort to spend time together!” presented a kind of enigma to me…
Today, a throng of young men and women, we are in ‘serious’ relationships but wasting a lot of time. We enjoy making love but hardly do Interest ourselves in spending time together.
It’s a matter of us fornicating all day but no mind of us getting married!
It’s very alarming. Most of us (young people), when we opt to get ourselves into these relationships, SEX is our priority. Nothing much! It’s always perplexing that when one of the partners talks about marriage, the other will plot a smart breakup. Marriage isn’t what we think about at all. It’s the number one enemy in our relationships.
In fact, this gives me an insight why there’s a worrying surge in marriage failures—at a time when we would plan for marriage, we only make sex plots with those who have no intentions of marrying us. By the time we realize marriage is an aspect we should have prioritized, we are desperate beings and therefore marry or get married to whoever comes. This is all because of the time squandered MAKING LOVE WITH NO EFFORT TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER…
It’s ornate to make love, but remember; it will be writhing if you don’t spend time together…
