Industrialization, Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria
By: Joseph Mutua Ndonga
Worth Noting:
- The previous governments opted to deal with Raila politically and in line with provisions of law. Dr Ruto was a key player and as we know he is a clever and well-schooled leader and politician.
- Remember what the President said during the burial of freedom fighter Makami Kimathi. He said he knows Raila very well. I know the end of his demos and what he is up to. Don’t mind we are going to agree.
- I’m not holding brief for Trade CS Moses Kuria but I want to say this. Going by statement posted on social media outlets, the CS did not mention the name of any leader. So I don’t know who originated and cooked wild, unfounded and unsubstantiated rumors that he said ‘someone will die’ and that person is a senior member of Azimio.
Yesterday I was in the Nairobi Central Business (CBD) and I got an opportunity to listen the views of the people. This was in a hotel for lowly class where I was taking a cup of tea.
This joint is frequented by touts and drivers of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).
The discourse focused on the planned anti-government demonstrations organized by Azimio La Umoja-OKA Party.
Did you hear what Moses Kuria (Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary) said? One of them posed. The reaction was swift and unanimous. Kuria’s remarks are currently circulating in all social media outlets, some noted while referring to the wording of his comment. ‘kuna mtu atakufa (Someone will die) on Wednesday when the third wave of Maandamano begins.
We know he was targeting Baba, the leader of Azimio Raila Odinga.
Some interjected asking him, the CS never mentioned Raila if he indeed uttered the words. How did you know? We know Raila’s demos have always turned chaotic and bloody. More than dozen people have so far died. So, Kuria was just issuing a warning that the third wave will be no different.
Undeterred, the tout continued. This country will not be the same again. You saw what happened in Rwanda. More than 800,000 lost thier lives. The genocide was triggered by the killing of Rwandese President allegedly by the rebels.
We do not want this to happen on our soil. God forbid. One of the tout, however, observed. Don’t take what Kuria says seriously. This man is not normal, he alleged.
President William Ruto is God-fearing man and besides he knows that Raila enjoys support of millions of Kenyans. In light of this, Dr Ruto’s plan is deal with Raila politically and within the parameters of the law. So if Indeed Kuria made these comments this was the most reckless comment that Ruto will never want to hear. This tout added. By now, I’m sure the President has reprimanded him.
In my reaction, I sought to differ with him. I told them. CS Kuria is a good student of Dr Ruto. So, he fully shared the sentiments of the president. Most of them concurred with me as some recalled.

But as we know, Kuria has lately made a number of enemies in one of the mainstream media.
This is after one of the mainstream media house tried to associate him with cooking oil scandal, a scandal that never was. Kuria had challenged the authors and management to prove their claims but they failed to do so.
This prompted him to swiftly hit back and was accused of uttering unsavoury words. This media house has since been giving him and the good work he is doing for the Ministry a total blackout and instead resorted to amplifying unverified negative stories said about him. These include stories aired by the gutter press. Could it turn out the journalists working for this station helped Kuria haters to twist his remarks?
We know Kuria is also hated by top guns in the Azimio coalition. This is because he was a diehard supporter of President Ruto. As such, he was a key opponent of Raila’s demonstrations and his bid to shake hand with Dr Ruto.
We defeated Raila. He should accept this bitter truth and move on; stick to his lane as an opposition leader.
As result, Azimio luminaries have been working very hard trying to create a wedge between him and Dr Ruto.
The good thing, however, is that the President is privy to this trick and this explains why he has always been rebutting claims designed to cast him in bad light.
If indeed Kuria said ‘someone will die’, who knows? Maybe his comments were informed by Biblical perspectives. We are all mortal. Every day people die and this is the working of God who created us in His own image.
Again, claims that Kuria is not normal were borne out of malice and hence do not hold any water. He has been undertaking the duties assigned to him by the President affectively and perfectly. He won’t do this if he has a mental problem.
