The New Democrats (TND) political party has no preferred presidential candidate during the forthcoming General Election.
Instead, the party is asking its supporters to, on individual basis decide who to support among the dozens who have declared their interest.
Party National chairman Dr Thuo Mathenge yesterday reiterated that they will not dictate to its members and supporters who they should elect.
“Our stand is let the people decide. Let everyone make personal decision on who to support among the contesting candidates,” Dr Mathenge said yesterday at Kariki village, Othaya constituency where he had attended the burial of one of his supporters, Geoffrey Kariithi who is reported to have died in a road accident in Nairobi.
Dr Mathenge, an aspiring Nyeri County governor who was accompanied his deputy nominee, Dr Esther Wanjiru said once elected, he was willing to work with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from any political lining since his aim was to serve Nyeri people and deliver them from the york of poverty.
“As Nyeri Governor, I will closely work with MCSs irrespective of their political party affiliations,” he told a press briefing after the burial and which he said was to be attended by the party Deputy Leader, Jimmy Kibaki but who could not make it as his family is still mourning.
At the same time, Dr Mathenge called on Deputy President Dr William Ruto to consider nominating Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate saying the legislator fitted the bill.
Further, he said, the deputy president had promised the Mathira MP that position and it was good if he kept his word.
“Sometimes back, our Deputy President came here in Nyeri and indicated he would like to closely work with Rigathi Gachagua. We are now asking him to nominate him as his deputy. He is fully qualified ” he said.
