President William Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki yesterday had a consultative meeting with lawmakers from the mountain region, ahead of his anticipated tour in the area. The President noted that constant consultation with elected leaders provides the best platform for deliberation on and consequently implementing transformative development programmes that benefit the citizens of our country. He said that his administration was on course in its programmes anchored under the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda. The discussions centred on the progress the government is making in coffee, tea and dairy farming, infrastructure development, affordable housing and fresh produce markets, among others.
Kenya yesterday marked World Oral Health Day by reinforcing its commitment to strengthening oral healthcare, highlighted by the launch of the Community Oral Health Department at KMTC Mosoriot. Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, and other senior officials, underscored the importance of oral health in overall well-being. She highlighted that conditions such as gum disease and dental caries remain widespread, significantly contributing to major non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular complications. She called for greater investment in prevention, education, and expanded access to oral healthcare services. Representing Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, Dr. Barasa urged Kenyans to prioritize oral hygiene, encouraged healthcare professionals to advocate for better oral health, and called on stakeholders to invest in oral healthcare as part of Universal Health Coverage. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring accessible and high-quality oral health services for all. The launch of the Community Oral Health Department at KMTC Mosoriot marks a major milestone in building Kenya’s oral healthcare workforce. As only the second training center of its kind after KMTC Nairobi, the facility will enhance service delivery, particularly in rural and underserved areas. This initiative aligns with Kenya’s National Oral Health Strategic Plan 2022-2026, which focuses on strengthening governance, expanding community-based interventions, increasing access to services, encouraging research for evidence-based policies, and fostering public-private partnerships to improve service delivery.
The journey to the highly anticipated World Health Expo Nairobi 2025 (WHX2025) officially began on Wednesday night with the launch of preparatory activities, marking a significant milestone in positioning Kenya as a leader in healthcare transformation across the continent. Organized in collaboration with Informa Markets and key government ministries, WHX2025 is set to be a catalyst for innovation, investment, and partnerships that will accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The expo, scheduled for October this year, aims to bring together global health leaders, investors, and innovators to showcase cutting-edge solutions and drive strategic collaborations.
Speaking at the launch, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, emphasized the expo’s role in unlocking Kenya’s healthcare potential. The event also featured remarks from Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, Beatrice Askul who underscored the regional significance of WHX2025 in advancing healthcare cooperation and innovation.
Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mutahi Kagwe yesterday had a consultative meeting with Board Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers of institutions that falls under the ministry where they refocused efforts on farmers with the discussions centering on enhancing agricultural production by integrating technology and developing sustainable solutions for the future. The team that is meeting in Mombasa also reviewed the existing policies to ensure they drive greater efficiency and effectiveness in the sector. The CS was accompanied by among others; Principal Secretaries, Dr. Paul Rono and Jonathan as well as Bungoma Senator, who is also chairman of the Agriculture Committee, David Wafula.
The Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo yesterday engaged the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security which is chaired by Narok West MP, Gabriel Tongoyo on policy matters regarding the implementation and operationalization of newly gazetted administrative units. For the 2024/2025 Financial Year, the Ministry has established 1,105 administrative units for operationalization. These include 24 sub-counties, 88 divisions, 318 locations and 675 sub-locations with their creation based on security concerns, population size, and minority representation. The PS informed the committee that the government is establishing a formal policy guiding the units creation process and that a Cabinet Memorandum on Guidelines for the creation of new Administrative Units has been drafted and will soon be presented to the Cabinet for approval.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen yesterday met the Senate Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations who he noted plays an important role in promoting good governance, security and stability of our country. The CS held a meeting with the committee led by the Chairperson Fatuma Dullo where he updated them on the various security interventions the government is undertaking in different parts of the country to address security challenges. They also discussed policy and legislative proposals geared towards streamlining the work of the National Police Reservists (NPRs), peace committees and the establishment of new administrative units.
Other members of the Committee who were present were the Vice Chairperson Prof Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Julius Murgor (West Pokot), Steve Lelegwe (Samburu) and Joseph Kamau (Lamu).
