Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday held a consultative meeting from various parts of the mountain region. After the meeting at his residence, he posted on his Facebook page, “over this holiday period, I have had the privilege of engaging various leaders and stakeholders from across the region as regards to the way forward, as we head into the new year. These consultations have been very useful and educative in helping us understand where we are; how we got here; and the options available for us as we head forward,”. He added, “today I continued with these consultations with former MPs Hon Peter Mwathi, Hon Jude Njomo, Hon Wainanina Jungle, Hon Ngunjiri Wambugu, Hon Gichuhi Mwangi & Hon. Kabinga Wathayu ; Formers MCAs Hon Kuria Karema, Hon Joseph Karichu, Hon Ev Mercy Nungari, Hon Muthoni Chikiru, Hon Juliah Wanjiku & Hon Livingstone Waiganjo; Kiambu leader Damaris Waiganjo, as well as youth leaders Karanja Muchai, Theuri Wanjiru and Peter Kinyanjui. Former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi was yesterday sworn in as Chairperson of the Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority Board.

Three people including a private van owner, his son and a driver were last week fined a total of Sh150,000 by a Kenol court in Murang’a after they admitted various charges of flouting traffic rules. The three who appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga were accused of ferrying passengers in a private van which did not have a PSV license along Kenol-Sagana highway on December 22. The first offender, Joel Karanja, the owner of the van was fined Sh. 20,000 or serve six months jail term after he pleaded guilty for allowing his vehicle to operate as a PSV without abiding to the traffic laws and regulations.Peter Njoroge who was driving the van faced three counts where he was charged with reckless driving thus endangering lives of the passengers, driving an unroadworthy vehicle and lacking PSV driver badge. He was fined Sh. 60,000 or serve one year in prison for driving recklessly. In the count of driving an unroadworthy vehicle, Njoroge was fined Sh. 50,000 or go to prison for six months, while in the count operating without a PSV badge the court ordered him to pay a fine of Sh.10,000 or three months in jail. Dennis Mwangi, who is the son of the first accused and acted as the vehicle conductor was charged with operating without a PSV badge and fined Sh.10,000 and in default serve one month in jail. In the count of hanging dangerously on the van’s door risking his own life he was ordered to pay a fine of Sh.10,000 or serve three months in prison.

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has maintained that they are still in the opposition despite the appointment of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies to the cabinet. Kioni says that the party would continue holding President Willam Ruto’s government to account and could not stand in the way of its members who wanted to join the government. On the other hand, he adds that the party would be even more vocal in criticizing oppressive government policies come 2025.
Residents of Utange, Kisauni constituency are living in fear of being evicted after they were served with a 15-day notice by an absentee landlord threatening to demolish their dwellings. The residents are engaged in a land ownership dispute with the landlord over a three-acre plot accusing local police of ignoring to implementing court orders issued in their favour. The residents received a 15-day demolition notice on 9th December to demolish their houses. If they fail to do so, they will incur the demolition costs.The residents claim the land is owned by the government and they applied for adverse possession.
