The Spouse of the Deputy President Pastor Dorcas Rigathi yesterday worshiped at Abundant New Life Church Nyeri with the group of men who were recently rehabilitated under her boychild program.
Some dressed in suits and ties, the young men who for so long had been hooked into alcoholism and drug abuse could not hide their joy during the praises and worship.
One of them is Evans Githui, a former Deputy Principal who was fired due to alcoholism but now says Pastor Dorcas has given her another chance to redeem himself.
“She has actually salvaged my life because I started drinking in 1987 and I have been blaming every person for my woes. But now I can see a better self,” Githui said.
Githui was dismissed from his teaching career in a school in Taita Taveta due to his drinking behaviors.
Speaking after the church service Pastor Dorcas said she is now working on placing the reformed addicts in job opportunities and back to school for those who had dropped.
“Right now, what we are doing is taking them for training in agribusiness and other vocational training and the moment we do that we will connect them to jobs. The PS for housing has already given some opportunities for some of them, and others who left school we are sponsoring them back,” she said.
“I can only thank God. Sometimes I can tell you I am overwhelmed because what came first, if you had seen them and what they are now, this is a real transformation,” she added.
The young men are currently placed under a programme at Ngorano area; a place pastor Dorcas is establishing the first health village.
The health village concept is drawn from the best practices worldwide; an initiative that she says will encompass sporting facilities, farming projects, a digital hub, health services, boarding facilities, vocational training, offering a holistic approach to rehabilitation.
The church presiding Bishop Paul Wanjohi thanked Pastor Dorcas for the initiative which he noted will assist thousands of alcohol and drugs addict across the country.
Also present was National Gender and Equality Commission commissioner Dr Margaret Karungaru.
