Battle for superiority between various political leaders and aspirant loomed up during ODM leader Raila Odinga’s visit in Meru on Thursday.
Majority of the Meru based leader who attended the event tried to outdo each other in a bid to woo voters.
Supporters of various aspirant and allied to different camps carried placards and chanted songs praising their preferred candidates, making it hard for the leaders and security team to calm the unruly crowd
Among the leaders who attended Odinga’s rally were Meru governor and DEP Party leader Kiraitu Murungi and his arch-rival Agriculture Cabinet secretary and PNU leader Peter Munya.

Governor Kiraitu who has recently joined Azimio used the chance to tell that he and his rival Munya have set aside their political differences and resolved to work together in a bid to campaign for Odinga’s presidential candidacy.
“From today Munya and I are in the same line in a bid to drum support for Odinga’s presidential candidancy,” Kiraitu said.
Things however seemed different when CS Munya rose to address the residents. Munya failed to recognize or drum support for Mr Kiraitu and instead drummed support for Mr Odinga.
Munya failure to say if he will back Kiraitu in his gubernatorial race led to uncertainty among the residents, with political pundits arguing that the battle between the two could be still on.
In a rally at Maili Tatu in Meru Odinga called for a handshake between Kiraitu and Munya in what seemed as a bid to ask the two leaders to work together and also calm the unruly crowd that was forcing its way to the podium.
Despite the handshake, Munya was still reluctant to drum support for Kiraitu who dethroned him in 2017 elections.
Various political pundits have argued that Munya could be supporting other candidates indirectly in a bid to dethrone Mr Kiraitu. Among the leaders mentioned is Meru senator Mithika Linturi who declared to be running for gubernatorial seat a few days ago
