Prioritise The Lives Of Learners, Mudavadi Urge Schools Management

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on basic and higher education institutions to enhance safety of learners, saying drivers should always exercise caution while on the road.
Speaking when he launched seven buses under the Njoro National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), Mudavadi said it is saddening to see many learners lose their lives through road accidents.
He also regretted the increased number of accidents involving school buses, saying it should be controlled by all means.
“Many of these accidents could have been avoided if the drivers were keen. It is their responsibility to ensure that they do not allow our children to perish because of reckless driving. Always ensure that the safety of the students is paramount,” said Mudavadi.
He added, “Statistics show that the deaths arising from accidents are now competing with deaths from other pandemics. This has now turned to be catastrophic, thus diverting focus of government to contain deaths resulting from pandemics and other diseases to handling of accident incidents as a result of reckless driving. This is unacceptable.”
Mudavadi said that caring for the lives of learners goes hand in hand with ensuring they are not only nurtured but also protected as future generations.
He encourages all learners at whichever level to focus on their academic programmes so that they can excel.
“As government, we do not want to have any gap in relation to professions in various sectors of our economy and livelihood. We must ensure we channel qualified, hard-working and dedicated citizens out of our learning institutions, by providing practical courses towards the current needs of our country,” said Mudavadi.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by the Principal Secretaries Belio Kipsang (Education) and Aurelio Rono (Parliamentary Affairs in the Office of PCS), Njoro MP Catherine Kathambi Chepkwony among other officials.
