“Youths and women have indisputably powerful leadership abilities, beacons upon which a brighter future for this nation can be erected. I am vying for Kigumo MCA seat in the 8th August elections because believe that I have what it credits to be the next MCA,” says Yvonne Wambui Muturi.

An education (English/Literature) graduate of Kenyatta University, 27 years old Yvonne aspires to unseat the incumbent and become the next Kigumo Ward MCA in Murang’a County.

Ms. Wambui is running on Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party ticket. The ambitious, visionary, brave young lady’s campaign mantra is “Mrembo Na Kazi.” She’s running against the incumbent Hon John Kairu, a former MCA Hon Caroline Njoroge and 10 other aspirants (both youth and middle aged).

Born in Kirere village, Kirere Sub-location, Ms. Yvonne Wambui stands that her aspiration is driven by the longing to work with and for the Kigumo Ward citizens and transform the face of the area.

She has already been interacting with locals from various villages in the ward. In fact, on Wednesday, 16th March, Yvonne yielded to the cry of Kigumo township boda boda riders and Gakoeini- Upper Marumi farmers and built them a safe footbridge over Saba Saba River.

The bridge was almost rotting and causing insecurity to the tea farmers, boda boda riders and other residents before she responded urgently, a response the incumbent hasn’t made even after persistent beseeching.

“We are behind Hon Yvonne’s bid, not because she’s a youth but because of her practicality, bravely and display of credible leadership skills, we are grateful to her for hearing our screams even before she’s finally elected,” the Kigumo Boda Boda Sacco chairperson commented after the construction was completed.

Asked what she will encourage youths to be supported and elected in August elections, Yvonne yielded, “The communities should dispose off the ugly rhetoric that youths are leaders of tomorrow, a tomorrow which never comes.”

She believes that there is no sane reason why youth can’t go for elective posts and gives the example of the young MP from Igembe in Meru County that defeated most of his elder competitors who were armed with long leadership experience and even higher education than him.

If elected, Yvonne promises that she will ensure that youth empowerment will no longer be a paper development.

Her manifesto is blended with Strategic Plans to ensure talent development, better healthcare, improvement and maintenance of feeder roads, fair county bursary distribution;

Improvement of Agribusiness sector and credible management and use of Ward Development Fund if it shall be projected in the next county government.
